Bella™ — The ProZ.com Companion

Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Bella™ Chrome extension and this website (thebella.app). Last updated: 20 July 2026. Bella™ is an independent third-party product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by ProZ.com.

1. Who we are (controller details)

The data controller for Bella™ is the individual developer operating under the trading name thebella.app. Contact for all privacy matters: support@thebella.app.

We are not required to appoint a Data Protection Officer. You have the right to complain at any time to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We would, however, appreciate the chance to address your concerns first.

2. The key thing to understand: no Bella backend

Bella does not operate a server that collects your personal data, job history, or browsing activity. Your preferences and job caches remain in Chrome’s local extension storage on your own device. The extension contacts third-party services only to carry out the tasks you asked it to perform.

3. What is stored on your device

All of the following is stored in Chrome local extension storage on your device only. It is never sent to a Bella-owned server:

  • Your language pairs and job-watching preferences
  • Your private ProZ.com jobs feed link (treat it like a password — do not share it)
  • An optional ProZ API key (for Pro features)
  • A short cache of recent matching jobs, dismissed job IDs, and “seen” IDs for new-match alerts
  • Check interval, notification preference, and Free / Pro subscription status
  • ExtensionPay’s local subscription-status keys (if you upgrade to Pro)

Lawful basis: performance of the service you requested (contract) and our legitimate interest in providing a functional extension. You control this data entirely — you can clear it at any time by removing the extension from Chrome.

Retention: this data persists in Chrome local storage until you uninstall the extension or clear its storage via Chrome settings. We hold no copy.

4. What the extension contacts externally

ProZ.com — to load your RSS jobs feed, open job pages in your browser, and read Blue Board scores from ProZ pages. Keyword search opens ProZ language-jobs pages directly in your browser. ProZ.com controls how it handles any data included in those requests; please see ProZ.com’s own privacy policy.

ExtensionPay / Stripe — only if you use the Upgrade or manage subscription features. Card details and payment handling are managed entirely by ExtensionPay and Stripe; Bella never receives or stores your financial information. Both services may process data outside the UK (see section 7 below).

Lawful basis: performance of the service (contract). You initiate every external request; Bella does not send data in the background without a user-triggered or scheduled check you have enabled.

5. This website (thebella.app)

This website does not require you to create an account or submit personal data. If you contact us by email, we collect only the information you include in that email (typically your email address and query). We use this solely to reply to you.

Lawful basis: legitimate interests (responding to support enquiries). Retention: email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to resolve your query and for up to 12 months thereafter.

This website does not currently use analytics cookies or tracking pixels. If that changes, this policy will be updated and a cookie notice displayed.

6. What we do not do

  • We do not sell your data to any third party.
  • We do not build advertising profiles or share data with ad networks.
  • We do not upload your feed link, API key, or job cache to any Bella cloud service.
  • We do not target children; Bella is intended for adult freelance professionals.

7. International transfers

ExtensionPay and Stripe are US-based companies. When you purchase a Pro subscription, your payment data is processed by them and may be transferred to and stored in the United States. Both providers rely on appropriate safeguards (including Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent) for transfers from the UK. Please review their respective privacy policies for details: extensionpay.com/privacy and stripe.com/gb/privacy.

8. Extension permissions — why they exist

storage — saves your settings and job cache locally on your device.
alarms — schedules periodic background checks of your RSS or API feed.
notifications — fires a desktop alert when new matching jobs are found.
contextMenus — adds right-click options to search ProZ from selected text.
scripting — injects a small read-only script into temporary ProZ.com tabs when a direct feed fetch is blocked and to read Blue Board ratings. No general browsing tabs are accessed.
identity — used only if you choose to connect your ProZ.com account via OAuth for API access (Pro feature). No identity data is stored by Bella beyond the OAuth token required to authenticate your API requests; it is saved locally only.

9. Your rights under UK GDPR

Because Bella holds very little personal data about you (and most of it resides on your own device), several rights are best exercised directly in Chrome. You also have the following rights, exercisable by emailing support@thebella.app:

  • Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you (e.g. support emails).
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data we hold.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete personal data we hold. For data in Chrome local storage, simply uninstall the extension or clear its storage.
  • Restriction — ask us to restrict how we use your data while a complaint is resolved.
  • Portability — request a machine-readable copy of data you provided to us.
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.

We will respond to requests within one month. You also have the right to complain to the ICO at any time (see section 1).

10. Third-party links

This website and the extension contain links to ProZ.com and other third-party sites. These sites have their own privacy policies; we are not responsible for their content or how they handle your data. We recommend reviewing their policies before submitting personal information to them.

11. Changes to this policy

We review this policy periodically. Material changes will be noted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the extension or website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Issues with your ProZ.com account, feed URL, or API credentials should be directed to ProZ.com. Billing queries for Pro subscriptions should be raised with ExtensionPay / Stripe in the first instance.
